Massage Treatment Guidelines and Code of Conduct
-
Massage involves physical contact, and oils and creams are used during treatments. Good personal hygiene is important for both the therapist and the guest, and guests are therefore asked to shower before their treatment. Therapists are also expected to maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and professional appearance. Either the therapist or the guest may decide to cancel the treatment if personal hygiene is considered unacceptable.
-
Guests should arrive at the waiting area on time, freshly showered and wearing a robe. The treatment room is not intended to be used as a changing room.
-
Guests receive massage treatments at their own discretion and responsibility. Anyone with a medical condition or other health concerns should always consult a doctor before receiving a massage.
-
Individual massage treatments generally follow a predetermined treatment routine unless the guest requests a particular area of focus, such as the back, head or feet. Guests who receive massages regularly are encouraged to work with their therapist and discuss their goals for the treatment.
-
Alcohol, recreational drugs and massage are not compatible. Both therapists and guests should refrain from consuming alcohol for at least 12 hours before a massage treatment. Guests should inform their therapist if they are taking anti-inflammatory medication or painkillers.
-
Guests may choose whether or not to wear underwear during the treatment. Guests are always appropriately draped, with only the area being treated uncovered.
-
Guests must be at least 16 years old to book a massage at Reykjavík Spa. Guests under the age of 18 must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian. Guests may request to have a third person present during the treatment. The accompanying person must also comply with the applicable standards of conduct and communication.
-
Reykjavík Spa is a professional treatment facility that follows strict ethical standards. Client confidentiality is respected, except in cases involving conduct or actions that violate the law.
-
Massage at Reykavík Spa is a professional treatment. Any inappropriate behaviour or comments from either a guest or therapist will result in the treatment being terminated immediately. If a treatment is terminated due to inappropriate behaviour by the guest, the treatment must be paid for in full. Serious misconduct may be reported to the police.
